Mixing and Mastering a Chillout Song

Matthew Harris is a very interesting artist with a special attention to detail. The songs are precisely crafted and offer the listener an unparalleled pleasure and ambience that transports the listener into a foreign world.

This project involved mixing and mastering one song. The stems were sent to me and I mixed the tracks with respect to the ambience of this song.
Cleaned up the recorded acoustic guitar tracks and the amp recordings of the electric guitar. In dynamics, only the peaks were slightly adjusted and this with rather long attack and release times. Dynamic equalizers helped smooth out individual resonance peaks to find a homogeneous sound for the whole song.
The ambient tracks were partly in mono. Simple plug-ins were used to make them wider.
Since there is a lot of space next to the instrumentalization, I spent a lot of time looking for suitable reverberation rooms. So it has plenty of room for a full, long room to spread everything out nicely in depth. However, the effects were not allowed to be too concise so as not to take away from the feel of the song.

In general, mixing and mastering a song is a joy. However, if it’s still an interesting niche, as with this song, it’s twice as interesting. The song and the result are very refreshing and enriching for my toolbox to successfully tackle and master further projects.
