Soundtrack and filming

For a charity project I could just finish the work on a promotional video. My tasks included the filming of the crew, the sound recording during the interviews, the editing and post-production for the video as well as the design of the soundtrack to the film. I am very happy with the final product and it was incredibly fun. For the soundtrack, I recorded and mixed in Cubase. The editing and effects I was able to do all in Blender 2.9.

The difficulties

I encountered the following difficulties during this project:
The filming took place in the basement of the president of the association. I don’t have to explain at length that a basement room is usually not optimal for sound recordings. The floor was carpeted which helped me in the processing, but all in all it was not optimal in the room.

In addition, you never know what you will encounter. That’s why I opted for a mobile solution with the Zoom H4n. As a microphone I took a small diaphragm condenser microphone. With such devices you are always confronted with noise. However, this was not a problem, except for quiet voices.

I then slightly compressed the voices and adjusted their frequency response.

The Soundtrack

Since this project already has a sister organization in Norway, there was already usable music. But to give this project its own identity, I re-recorded and refined the soundtrack. The music should support the images and transport emotions, which I succeeded very well. To leave room for voices in the middle, I chose pad and strings in the instrument selection and placed them far out in the stereo panorama. There is also a little bit of ducking going on during the movie.
